Description
YERBA MATE “Tamanduá” 500 Grs – DELICIOUS SMOKY BARBACUÁ PRODUCED by MAM & UTT in MISIONES, ARGENTINA.
A few years ago, the Agrarian Movement of Misiones (MAM), a historic organization in the region’s rural social struggle, joined forces with the UTT (Union of Land Workers). They talked, shared stories, discussed needs, and of course, enjoyed rounds of yerba mate. From this meeting, the idea emerged to produce a high-quality yerba mate that would create jobs for indigenous families, thereby strengthening family farming.
This is how “Tamanduá” was born, a fair trade barbacuá-dried yerba mate whose name comes from Guaraní, meaning “anteater,” a native species now endangered. “Tamanduá” undergoes natural storage, and its milling is perfectly balanced, with just the right amount of stems, small to medium leaves, and powder. This careful process ensures that “Tamanduá” is a yerba mate that doesn’t cause acidity and has a medium intensity—quite difficult to achieve in barbacuá-dried yerbas.
The aroma upon opening the package is delightful, but the true magic of “Tamanduá” begins with the third or fourth pour when the yerba settles, moving away from that initially intense sip. Subtler, more pleasant flavors start to emerge. The color of the yerba is a dark, intense olive green. If you enjoy smoky yerba with a barbacuá drying process, you are sure to savor this one.
On the back of the package, the producers have written: “When you choose to buy this product, you are supporting the efforts of the Misiones settlers who produce and process the yerba mate in their own cooperative, maintaining the original and unique flavor of barbacuá drying.”
We take pride in offering you this noble, high-quality product and in supporting the very small yerba mate producers in Misiones, Argentina.
